A Bioinformatic Investigation of a Mysterious Meningoencephalitis
During this session, you will work collaboratively on a case study to identify the cause of an infection of a hypothetical patient. To confirm the identity of the disease-causing organism, you will use bioinformatic tools and analyze data from a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), a common technique used in molecular biology. Once the causative organism is identified, you will analyze graphs from the Centers for Disease Control to learn about the incidence of the disease, and we will discuss the treatment for this infection.
Dr. David Lisenby
Cognitive Illusions, Critical Thinking, Language, and Identity
What is the difference between “intuitive” and “effortful” thinking? How does the language we speak shape the way we think? How can metacognitive awareness lead to improved critical thinking? And how does our sense of “identity” influence our interactions with others? “In this session, we will consider these questions and their implications for business, the humanities, social sciences, and other academic disciplines.”
